Til death do us part? Not really. Just days after the June 8 conclusion of Season 2 of Married at First Sight's social experiment, in which singles marry total strangers, cast member Ryan De Nino revealed that his bride, Jessica Castro, has filed an order of protection against him.
In an Instagram posting on Saturday, June 13, De Nino, 29, confirmed that Castro, 30, filed papers in the Queens, N.Y. family court system. "This isn't something I'd wish on anyone," De Nino wrote when posting a photo of Castro's filing, which the New York State Unified Court System uses as a safeguard to "limit the behavior of someone who harms or threatens harm to another person." The order includes, but is not limited to, situations involving domestic violence.
"[The order] had me in awe and when I read it, I was disgusted," the Staten Island, N.Y., business owner Instagrammed.
While Castro has not publicly spoken out about her filing, the reality star has been posting cryptic Instagram messages in the wake of Married at First Sight's Season 2 finale. "There is no force more powerful than a woman determined to rise," one post read. (As of Monday morning, Castro continued to use a Married at First Sight wedding photo as her profile picture.)
As fans of the series are aware, Castro and De Nino's road to the altar was a rocky one. Frequently involved in screaming matches, the couple often struggled with communication issues during their toxic early courtship.
In a March interview with NY1, Castro revealed that she was engaged once before and ended her relationship when her then-fiance cheated. However, she had high hopes De Nino could be The One. "From when they opened the door and I first saw him, I saw his beautiful smile and I'm like, 'All right, this is good,'" Castro said.
Castro and De Nino's initial decision to stick together for the long haul followed a six-week period documented by Married at First Sight's cameras, which captured the couple as they married, honeymooned, and moved in together. Although Davina Kullar and Sean Varricchio chose to end their marriage on Married's finale episode, their costars Jaclyn Methuen and Ryan Ranellone remained a couple.
Jamie Otis, who competed on Ben Flajnik's season of The Bachelor, appeared on Season 1 of Married at First Sight and celebrated one year of marriage with her husband Doug Hehner in March.
